Make Your Own: Caffeine Skin Polishing Oil

It moisturizes, and it exfoliates, it smooths and soothes. It's for face or body, hands or scalp. It's the formula for our most requested oil!

Over the last 2 years since closing Wyld shop, many have discovered our formulas here on this journal. Which I’m thrilled about!

And so many have asked if I’d consider sharing about the Wyld Caffeine Skin Polishing Oil. Until now, I’ve sent out the formula privately to those who have requested it. Today I’m putting it here for all.

What makes the Caffeine Skin Polishing Oil so special?

  • Richly moisturizing
  • Exfoliates gently, which is so helpful when treating really dry or dull skin
  • Gentle enough to use on the face, but effective enough to use on any part of the body or even the scalp. One of my favorite ways to use it is on my dry hands!
  • Just four ingredietns and easy to make
  • Totally natural, PUFA-free, and can be organic if you use organic ingredients
  • Smells so uplifting and energizing – neither feminine or masculine, making it good for all
  • The results are evident after just one use!

How each ingredient works

WILD ROSEHIP | Rosa Canina
Rosehips penetrate deep in skin layers and improve skin health in so many ways – by stimulating collagen production, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving moisture content and skin texture, combating sun damage, unclogging pores, encouraging skin regeneration and more. Rosehips grow wild here in Sweden, making it a natural choice for us to utilize.

JOJOBA OIL | Simmondsia Chinensis
Jojoba is lovely golden oil that closely imitates our skin’s own natural sebum, making it a perfect moisturizer for improving skin elasticity and suppleness. It comes from a desert shrub and has long been used by Native Americans for its many benefits: long-lasting hydration, full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, anti-aging, non-greasy, easily absorbable, gentle, soothing, anti-microbial and non-acnegenic.

COFFEE  | Coffee Arabica
Full of antioxidants, coffee is collagen boosting, anti-aging and cellulite-busting. It can also help keep the skin hydrated by reducing transepidermal water loss. It may even protect skin from UV-B ray sun damage. We use ground coffee from an organic, small batch roastery located in the Stockholm archipelago. Their coffee is handcrafted and light-roasted, which means it’s much richer in antioxidants than store-bought dark roasted coffee.

FRANKINCENSE OIL | Boswellia carterii
The king of oils, frankincense has been used since ancient times for its tremendous healing properties and aromatherapy benefits. Today, science is proving that it can improve arthritis pain, asthma and other respiratory ailments, maintain oral health, and even fight certain cancers. Its beauty benefits include everything from clearer skin to anti-aging. It reduces inflammation and helps prevent acne, thanks to its boswellic acids that are capable of killing acne-causing bacteria. Its cytophylactic properties stimulate cell regeneration and also protects older cells from free radical damage. The scent is grounding and calming, to the point where it has been clinically proven to deepen breath and treat a number of depressive disorders.

Let’s make it!

Step 1 is to infuse jojoba oil with rosehips, if you haven’t done that already. Check our post on How to make infused oils here.

Basically you just need to harvest (or buy) wild rosehips, dry them out thoroughly, put them in a jar and cover completely with jojoba oil for a couple of weeks. If you’re in a hurry, you can speed up this infusion process by using the quick heat method. See the post here for instructions.

Once you have your wild rosehip infused jojoba oil, it’s very simple from here!

Wyld Caffeine Skin Polishing Oil

You’ll need

  • 60 ml bottle with dropper pipette (or 60 ml jar)
  • 2 teaspoons high-quality, light roasted coffee – finely ground
  • A few drops of frankincense oil
  • 50 ml wild rosehip infused jojoba oil
  • (optional) 2 drops of vitamin E oil (I use BioCare’s Nutrisorb vitamin E)

To make

To your 60 ml bottle (or jar), add 2 teaspoons of high-quality, light roasted coffee (light roast has more antioxidants, we always use coffee from a local roastery in the swedish archipelago). Make sure the coffee is finely ground so that it exfoliates gently. Big coffee grains could be harsh on the skin.

Next, add a few drops of frankincense essential oil. Then fill the bottle with wild rosehip infused jojoba oil. Put on the top and gently shake to combine. You can also add a couple drops of vitamin E oil if you have that on hand, but not necessary. Vitamin E oil helps extend shelf life and is a bit ‘extra’ for the skin.

To use

Gently shake before each use, then drop a coin sized amount in the palm of one hand. Rub hands together, and then gently rub into skin using circular motions. Take your time here, slowing down to revisit areas that need some extra love. Rinse with warm water and then pat skin dry. Skin should feel noticeably smoother and softer.

Some of my favorite uses:

  • On the face: especially if your complexion is dull and dry – every ingredient in this oil will help revive new life into your skin.
  • Dry hands: use AFTER soap, BEFORE hand cream or lotion.
  • On scalp to keep hair shiny and to slow down hair loss. I use this religiously on my scalp during postpartum and in times of higher stress. Simply massage into scalp, really taking the time to put gentle pressure and stimulate blood flow. The caffeine will help a lot here too with stimulating blood flow, while frankincense oil will treat any underlying causes. Once you’ve massaged your scalp for a few minutes, let it sit for a couple more minutes, and then shampoo hair as normal.
  • On rough patches: like elbows and heels of your feet. The exfoliation will help turn over new skin cells and, over time, soften skin.

That’s it! A simple yet highly effective products as long as you focus on high quality ingredients.

Would love to know if you make it and how you like to use it.

Take care!
