We were out Stockholms archipelago last weekend, on the island of Värmdö, when an ice wave started. Just wow. How lucky we were to be there when it started, to witness it from beginning to end!
Ice waves, sometimes called ice shoves or even ice tsunamis, are caused by strong winds or strong sea currents beneath the ice. They usually occur in the spring as the ice is melting. I’ve never seen one in real life before, so this was such a treat.
Otherwise, we spent the day climbing trees, sprawling across huge stones in the sunshine, and enjoying ‘fika’ (swedish coffee break) at Artipelag. A day to remember.
Hope you enjoy the video! xx
